ZONE1 at Vienna Contemporary 2024, Curated by Bruno Mokross: Featuring Minda Andrén, Evy Jokhova, and Sebastian Schachinger
Discover with us the artists: Minda Andrén with her thought-provoking exploration of identity in the digital age, Evy Jokhova’s intriguing reflections on architecture and space, and Sebastian Schachinger’s captivating meditations on time and memory.
Minda Andrén: The Self in a Sea of Images
Minda Andrén, a Swedish artist based in Vienna, uses her paintings to explore the relationship between the human body and the overwhelming flood of images in contemporary society.
Her work delves into themes of identity, perception, and how technology and media shape our understanding of self.
Often incorporating digital elements into her layered paintings, Andrén’s art creates tension between the physical and digital worlds, offering a philosophical reflection on what it means to be human today.
Evy Jokhova: Interrogating Space and Ritual
Evy Jokhova, a Swiss-born artist, bridges architecture, anthropology, and philosophy in her multidisciplinary practice.
Her work investigates how structures—whether architectural, social, or personal—shape human behavior and memory.
Jokhova's installations blend materials like stone, textiles, and ceramics, often referencing ancient rituals and contemporary landscapes.
By challenging constructs of perception and reality, she invites viewers to reconsider how we interact with the physical and conceptual spaces around us.
Sebastian Schachinger: Time, Memory, and the Echoes of the Past
Sebastian Schachinger, a German-born artist, explores the fluidity of time and memory through his multidisciplinary work, blending performance, sound, and installation.
His pieces, often dealing with the immaterial presence of the past, challenge conventional perceptions of time, questioning how we experience and remember it.
Schachinger invites viewers to engage with the silent echoes of the past, embodied in objects and spaces, creating a deeply reflective experience on the fragility of memory and the passage of time.
