INTERVIEW with Maite and Manuel
Are you guys a power couple both in art and love, or do you just collaborate as artists?
"We've been a couple for seven years and have always been collaborating on different projects since we met."
Who's the proud owner of your adorable dog?
"Both! Atún is 1 year old and he's an ibizan hound, a primitive breed for the balearic islands.
He sometimes sneaks around at the studio and ends up with spots of paint all over himself. But overall he's very lazy and loves to sleep while we paint."

* You're both incredibly talented illustrators! How did you stumble upon the world of art?
"We have always drawn, but when we decided to move out of Barcelona we also decided that it was time for our work to evolve and dedicate ourselves to painting completely, which was something we always dreamed of but did not see possible, until we thought why not?"
* Alright, Maite and Manuel, spill the paella beans! How's the art scene in Mallorca treating you two?
"Very good! This year we already had two shows on the island and we have one planned for next year."
* Where can we catch your incredible artworks on display these days? Can you give us a sneak peek into any upcoming shows on the horizon?
”We will be at the Estampa art fair in Madrid mid October and will also have our solo show "La Sombra del Pino" in La Causa Galeria at the same time."
* Instagram – friend or foe for artists? What's your take on this creative platform?
It's a great tool to see other artists' work and see what's going on in other places.
* Could you provide us with a sneak peek into your upcoming exhibition titled 'The Shadow of Pino' at LA CAUSA Art Gallery?
"La Sombra del Pino" is the result of a collaborative dialogue that combines drawing, abstraction and figuration. Made during the summer months in your garden, moving the paintings constantly trying to avoid the sun in the shade of the pine trees.
Moving the paintings allowed us to see our work from multiple perspectives. The result is paintings with a lot of movement, with interrupted rhythms and variations, corrections and stumbles that arise from quick actions and reveal the reasoning behind each brushstroke and reflect the spirit of play of the work."

LA SOMBRA DEL PINO
Solo exhibition by Maite y Manuel | La Causa Galeria
'La Sombra del Pino' is a solo exhibition by the Uruguayan painter duo Maite and Manuel, showcasing a series of collaborative works at the La Causa Galeria in Madrid.
Created during the summer months in their garden, the title of the exhibition reflects the artists' practice of constantly moving their canvases to find shade under pine trees.
This process has infused their art with movement, interrupted rhythms, and variations, resulting from rapid brushstrokes and reflection.
The works delve into the artists' creative dialogue, exploring themes of imagination, childhood memories, and the dynamics of being an artistic duo.
Maite and Manuel's art focuses on emotions and interpersonal experiences, often portraying characters disconnected from their surroundings, lost in internal struggles.
The exhibition is a testament to their collaboration, combining their unique energies in an ongoing artistic conversation.
