Vienna Art Week | Living Rituals

VIENNA ART WEEK 2020 | LIVING RITUALS 13-20 NOV 2020

VIENNA ART WEEK remains an important partner for both artists and Vienna as an art location especially in the challenging crisis year of 2020. The main goal of this year's VIENNA ART WEEK is to offer the artists of this city a strong stage in difficult times.

This year VIENNA ART WEEK will take place from 13 to 20 November 2020: The main focus will be on artists working in Vienna and Vienna's art and educational institutions (organized as Art Cluster Vienna Verein). Vienna's art institutions, such as museums, galleries, and art universities, are making a major contribution to connect artists to the international art scene and to the associated visibility that seems indispensable especially in these times.

This year's motto of VIENNA ART WEEK is LIVING RITUALS and, in keeping with the prevailing situation, invites visitors to concentrate on the essential. In our society, rituals serve the social cohesion and structure everyday life. In their original form, they integrate people into ritual processes and stand for both concentration and the dissolution of boundaries. In contemporary art, rituals can be recognized in many ways, for example in the emphasis on the ritual of ornamental form or in bodily rituals as part of the artistic canon.

But the everyday rituals of artistic production are also worth a look. Like last year, the core of VIENNA ART WEEK 2020 will be the Open Studio Days. On the weekend of November 14-15 an extensive program is planned in selected studios: Tours, studio visits and talks, both analogue and digital, will invite visitors to explore artistic production along the lines of the motto LIVING RITUALS and beyond. Between 16 and 20 November, VIENNA ART WEEK will combine program events from the city's art and educational institutions. The partners' programs include events that can also be realized online and either involve Viennese artists or address the theme LIVING RITUALS.
